[What’s Actually New in JavaScript (And What’s Coming Next)](https://neciudan.dev/whats-new-in-javascript) — If you don’t read the specs or endless posts about new language features, this is a great way to catch up. _Most_ of the features are supported in Node, like `Promise.try`, `Set` union/intersection/difference, `Array.fromAsync`, and `using`, with others soon to land, like [`Math.sumPrecise`](https://neciudan.dev/whats-new-in-javascript#mathsumprecise) and [`Map.getOrInsert`](https://neciudan.dev/whats-new-in-javascript#mapgetorinsert-upsert) (in Node 26).

[p99 Is 40ms. Until the Analytics Query Hits](https://www.tigerdata.com/timescaledb?utm_source=content-syndication&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=node-weekly-newsletter) — Analytics queries shouldn't blow your latency budget. A second database adds pipelines, sync lag, and drift. TimescaleDB extends Postgres for fast analytics on live data. Hypertables, 95% compression, continuous aggregates. [Node 26.0 Slips to May 5: Temporal Trips Over Rosetta 2](https://github.com/nodejs/node/pull/62526) — Node 26.0 (Current), complete with the [Temporal API](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Temporal) enabled by default, was expected this Tuesday, but a [macOS-related problem broke the build.](https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/58730#issuecomment-4336293111) A [fix is in the pipeline](https://github.com/nodejs/node/issues/58730#issuecomment-4351809373), and [26.0 RC 2](https://nodejs.org/download/rc/v26.0.0-rc.2/) was created, so you can still try 26.0 out.

The Node.js Project

**IN BRIEF:**

- [pnpm 11.0](https://pnpm.io/blog/releases/11.0) _(more below)_ has added [a `pack-app` command](https://pnpm.io/11.x/cli/pack-app) which packs an app with a CommonJS entry file into a standalone executable using Node's SEA ([Single Executable Applications](https://nodejs.org/api/single-executable-applications.html)) feature under the hood.
- [Perry](https://www.perryts.com/) is an interesting cross-platform TypeScript compiler that compiles directly to native executables.
- Earlier this year, the Node-based [Eleventy (11ty)](https://www.11ty.dev/) static site generator [became _Build Awesome_](https://www.11ty.dev/blog/build-awesome/). They now [have a Kickstarter](https://www.11ty.dev/blog/build-awesome-pro/) to build a _Pro_ edition with collaborative editing and simpler publishing.

🛠 Code & Tools

[portless: Replace Port Numbers with Stable, Named Local URLs](https://github.com/vercel-labs/portless) — If you’d rather see something like `https://myapp.localhost` than `http://localhost:3000` this is for you. It’s built on Node, and now includes [new features for Tailscale users.](https://github.com/vercel-labs/portless/releases/tag/v0.12.0)

[pnpm 11.0 Released](https://pnpm.io/blog/releases/11.0) — A big release. The most promising feature is a new SQLite-backed package index, but it also adds native package publishing tooling, global installs are isolated, and supply-chain protection is on by default.

🍋 [Fresh 2.3: The Deno-Native Full-Stack Framework](https://deno.com/blog/fresh-2.3) — Deno's full-stack web framework ([explained here](https://fresh.deno.dev/)) gains first-class WebSocket support, no longer ships _any_ JavaScript for pages that don’t need it, and makes using the View Transitions API a snap with a single attribute in your views.

[Honker: Get Postgres `NOTIFY`/`LISTEN` Semantics in SQLite](https://github.com/russellromney/honker) — Brings `NOTIFY`/`LISTEN` event delivery to SQLite without a daemon. The [honker-node package](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@russellthehippo/honker-node) brings it to Node.js and [here's how to use it.](https://github.com/russellromney/honker#nodejs)

- Discontent has been brewing around GitHub's reliability in recent months. Vlad Fedorov has [posted a new update on GitHub's availability](https://github.blog/news-insights/company-news/an-update-on-github-availability/) in the wake of two further incidents, including one where incorrect merge commits were created. Meanwhile, Mitchell Hashimoto has announced [the Ghostty project is leaving GitHub entirely.](https://mitchellh.com/writing/ghostty-leaving-github)
- [Ubuntu 26.04 LTS](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-26-04-resolute-raccoon-lts-released/80833) (codenamed _"Resolute Raccoon"_) has been released. As an LTS release, it will get maintenance updates through to 2031.
- 📊 If you need to render small bar, (spark)line, or pie charts in your app, [Datatype](https://franktisellano.github.io/datatype/) is a variable OpenType font that lets you render charts solely with plain text – no JS or images required. It's [available on Google Fonts](https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Datatype)too.
- 🤖 Cloudflare has released [a set of agent skills](https://github.com/cloudflare/skills) to help agentic development tools build on the Cloudflare platform. This has become even more relevant as [agents can now open their own Cloudflare accounts!](https://blog.cloudflare.com/agents-stripe-projects/)
